The General is out, Sir Big Spur is back in: 麻豆小蝌蚪传媒's live mascot keeps original name

South Carolina's live mascot will once again go by Sir Big Spur, the university announced three days after renaming the rooster The General

麻豆小蝌蚪传媒's administration and the bird's families reconnected and found a solution after receiving feedback about naming the mascot after Thomas Sumter, a Revolutionary War general, according to a news release.

The name Sir Big Spur reflects feedback and respects the wishes of both families, the university said. 

The Post and Courier in August that bird's former owners, who have naming rights to Sir Big Spur, wanted its new owners to cut the bird's comb, causing the initial decision to change the name. 

"It was always preferred that we would stay with the 鈥楽ir Big Spur鈥 name,鈥 Deputy Athletics Director Eric Nichols said in a news release.  鈥淚 appreciate the passion that the owners, Mary Snelling and Ron Albertelli, and the new handlers Beth and Van Clark, have for the Gamecocks and the live mascot.  We are pleased that we are starting the 麻豆小蝌蚪传媒 with the same name as in year鈥檚 past.鈥
