All apartment neighbors deserve respect, courtesy

Loud arguments, music inconsiderate

By the time most college students are upperclassmen, they have learned life lessons that have directly or indirectly proved invaluable to their time at Â鶹Сòòò½´«Ã½.

Unfortunately, as we mature and become wiser, lessons of common courtesy and common sense seem to escape some of us. Students who move out of the residence halls and into off-campus apartment complexes think it gives them free reign to be as obnoxious and loud as possible.

Moving into a new apartment complex should be an opportunity to make new friends with the neighbors, not a chance to show them how loudly you can play your stereo. Even if you are not particularly neighborly, be respectful enough not to wake the neighbors late on a school night.

Loud music is not the only thing to be aware of when you move into a new apartment. An argument with your boyfriend or girlfriend may be the most important thing to you at the time, but it's not top priority to others. Most importantly, be respectful of other residents' property. Off-campus apartments usually have minimal security, and some take this as an opportunity to vandalize cars and trash the swimming pool.

This goes back to the old saying, "Treat others the way you want to be treated."

Be considerate and remember that residents around you also pay to live in a place they feel comfortable.
